General & Family Dentistry in Sterling, VA

Our general dental services include:

General and family dentistry covers everything your mouth needs to stay healthy — from the first baby tooth to wisdom teeth and beyond. Dr. Jafari brings 25+ years of experience to every exam, and her team is built around making dental visits feel routine, not stressful. We treat kids, teens, adults, and seniors, so your whole household can see the same dentist who already knows your history.

Twice-a-year checkups are the baseline for most patients. During those visits we do a thorough cleaning, check for early signs of decay or gum disease, and talk through anything we notice — before small problems become expensive ones. Some patients need to come in more often, and we’ll tell you honestly if that’s the case and explain why.

If something goes wrong between visits — a broken tooth, sudden pain, a lost filling — call us as soon as you can. We offer same-day emergency appointments, and if you need us urgently outside regular hours, reach us on our emergency line at (703) 728-2000. We’d rather hear from you early than have you wait it out.

A note on dental anxiety

If you’ve been avoiding the dentist because of fear or a bad experience somewhere else, you’re not alone. Dr. Jafari practices judgment-free care and takes the time to explain what she’s doing before she does it. Many patients who arrive nervous leave feeling relieved. We also speak Farsi if that makes communication easier.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first appointment includes a full exam, X-rays if needed, and a cleaning. Dr. Jafari will review your dental and medical history and walk you through anything that needs attention. You’ll leave with a clear picture of your oral health and a plan — not a sales pitch.

We accept Medicaid and most major insurance plans. Our office is on the third floor at 21495 Ridgetop Circle, Suite 303, Sterling, VA 20166. Hours are Monday through Friday 8am–5pm, and Saturday mornings 8am–12pm by appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What does a general dentist actually do?

A general dentist is your primary dental care provider — the one you see for cleanings, exams, fillings, and most everyday dental needs. Dr. Jafari also handles restorative work, extractions, root canals, and dental emergencies, so you’re not constantly being referred elsewhere for routine problems. If something is outside her scope, she’ll tell you and help coordinate the right care.

How often should I come in for a checkup?

Twice a year is the standard recommendation — once every six months — though some patients with gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, or certain health conditions benefit from more frequent visits. Dr. Jafari will tell you what makes sense for you based on what she actually sees, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

I’m nervous about the dentist. Will that be a problem?

Not here. Dental anxiety is common, and Dr. Jafari’s approach is gentle and unhurried by design. Tell us when you call or at the start of your appointment — we’ll adjust the pace, explain each step, and give you control over how things proceed. Avoiding care because of fear usually makes the underlying problem worse, so reaching out is always the right move.

When should my child have their first dental visit?

Around their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth coming in — whichever is earlier. Early visits let us catch jaw and bite issues young, and they help kids build a comfort level with the dentist before there’s ever a problem to fix. We see children at Inova Dental Clinic and try to make those first visits as low-key as possible.

How should I brush and floss at home?

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste — morning and before bed at minimum. Floss once a day, ideally at night, to clear what your brush can’t reach between teeth and along the gumline. Adding a mouthwash helps with bacteria between flossing. It’s straightforward, but consistency is what actually moves the needle.

Do you accept Medicaid or my insurance?

Yes — we accept Medicaid and most major insurance plans. If you’re unsure whether we’re in your network, call us at (703) 433-1400 and we’ll check before you come in. We’d rather answer the question upfront than have you deal with a billing surprise later.
